Do's and Don'ts

DO'S
  • Do instruct the rigger that anytime any component is damaged he should consult with you and the manufacturer before attempting to repair it. Most components that are not too severely damaged can be field-repaired.

  • Do always make sure that all transmission line components are stored in a dust-free environment out of the weather until their installation.

  • Do always make sure that the spring hangers are in complete alignment. In towers that have adjustable spring hanger mounts, it is recommended that a plumb line be pulled and the hangers adjusted to this line.
DON'TS
  • Don't put up any line that has been damaged without consulting the manufacturer.

  • Don't put up any line that has been comtaminated with dirt, dust, water, etc. without consulting the manufacturer.

  • Don't ever attempt to assemble (lift) more than one section at a time.

  • Don't lift coupled transmission lines. Rigid lines should be put up one section at a time.

  • Don't mismatch. If there are matched marked sections such as an elbow complex at the top of the tower, be sure that they are assembled as marked and in the order specified.

  • Don't ever dismiss the rigger from the installation until you are sure the system will hold pressure. S.W.R. recommends that you operate at five (5) pounds PSI gauge pressure, except on special installations specified by the manufacturer.

  • Don't attempt to power up a system until you are sure it does hold pressure and it has been purged with dry nitrogen.

  • Don't assemble field cuts without first deburring and radiusing all sharp edges.

  • Don't use hangers on tower members that aren't strong enough to support the hanger without sagging because the hanger will act as a bottle opener instead of a guide.
